Japanese Mac users get first OS X-friendly Blu-ray burner - Mp4 Converter

Updated August 4,2006

Japanese storage specialist Logitec will ship what may be the world's first Mac-compatible Blu-ray Disc burner later this month. The 2x BD drive can write to BD-R and BD-RE media offering 25GB and 50GB storage capacities.

Logitec also said the Blu-ray Disc burner - dubbed the LBD-A2FU2/WM - will support DVD-RAM, DVD±R/RW, dual-layer DVD±R and CD-R/RW discs. This Blu-ray burner has both USB 2.0 and Firewire interfaces on board.

Last week, burner software developer Roxio said it was offering drive makers a Blu-ray compatible version of its Mac OS X application Toast 7 Titanium. Sure enough, the Logitec product ships with Toast 7 Titanium.

The LBD-A2FU2/WM Blu-ray Disc burner goes on sale in Japan mid-August for ¥132,000 ($1,148/£614/€899). There's no word yet on wider availability, but the drive is RoHS-compliant so European distribution is certainly possible. ®
